Saith Maen

saith maen haiku 1

Wales is a land of mystery and magic.

Saith Maen (seven stones) lies high on the slopes of Cribarth (Crest of the Bear). Not far from the brooding depths of Lynn y Fan Fawr and Lynn y Fan Fach with it’s legend of the lady. They point to the circle of Cerrig Duon also called Maen Mawr.

Sleep out on these hills under a full moon and you sink into the mindscapes of myth. This land is powerful and ancient with iron in it’s soul and and birdsong on it’s lips.

Black Mountains Storm Light

rainbowblack mountains 3 black mountains evening black mountains by Glasbury evening light black mountainsPhotographing landscapes often means hours of crouching in the lee of a rock or huddled under a hedge waiting for that elusive moment when the light is perfect and the shot makes itself.   Sometimes however the landscape and light oblige with a magnificence that no amount of waiting can guarantee – this was one such occasion, I was driving home from work thinking more about tea and toast than any shots when the light over Hay Bluff and the Twmpa exploded into a riot of dramatic colour.  Guess what NO CAMERA!!  My mobile phone did it’s best but I still keep thinking of what might have been if I’d had my normal kit with me.
